Where did we go?

Have we been slacking on posting or what? Here is a quick recap on what's been going on.

We took a trip to West Virginia to visit our friends that used to live in Richmond. They went from living in the West End to what they now refer to as Possum Living. It's an interesting and admirable adventure they are on you can see at http://againstthegrainhomestead.blogspot.com/  . Hopefully they will be coming to visit us soon.

Our Babies are getting bigger. We have named the 2 new goats Betty(White) and Wilma(Brown). They are very sweet but Betty is more like her mom in that she is a little shy and Wilma although she looks exactly like Pebbles is completely different in her personality. She is very sweet.

We have placed an order for our spring chickens. They should be here mid February. We got more layers and a few Roosters to try and maintain our own stock and maybe even have a few chick to sell.

Our Bourbon Red Turkeys we got in the fall have gotten very big. We ended up losing 1 but the 4 that are remaining are doing great! We have 1 Gobbler and 3 hens so I am hoping for a productive spring!

Here is Bobby and his three ladies!

And our baby girl has her first Tooth! She is getting so big now. She is 7 months old and weighs in at 20 pounds.

House Update

Friday we got news from the builder that they had finished clearing our lot. I new we had some bad weather coming this weekend so I had to go see what it looked like. I have been hunting this property for years and its always been so thick with trees that its hard for me to imagine a whole acre being clear. Eventually once we are all settled in i plan to continue thinning out the woods to make room for animals and outbuildings but with the baby on the way i  am sure that will be a slow process.

They also finished putting in the driveway. Here is a video of that. The dirt part is actually a layer of dirt over some crushed concrete. I don't know why they do that. I guess it helps it get packed better.

Finally things are moving along.

I've already ordered and received my seeds for this years garden which will be my first garden in a long time.   I may have gone a little over board with the seed purchase but I'm so anxious to get moved right now I couldn't help it.

We are also going to be getting some meat chickens in the next few weeks so that should interesting. I started the new chicken tractor today so hopefully I will have more of an update on that tomorrow.

House Update

Well nothing has really happened on the house building part. We are kinda stuck in the permit application phase. We are working with the builder to finalize the contract and that's not easy when you want as many things as we want yet have already maxed out the budget. We will find a way though. Hopefully everything except the building permit will get completed this week and we will just have that to wait on.

We have started packing since we have to be out of our house by the 28th of this month and it is not fun! We also have to find arrangements to keep the dogs and chickens in while we are living with Tab's parents. They are coming with us but I have to make sure whatever they stay in is temporary and yet still secure enough. With Thanksgiving coming up and hunting season being in full swing it should be a busy few weeks.

This is a veiw down the road that cuts through our property. It is an easement for the few people that live on this road. Our property is on the left side of this road.

We Sold our House!

Well we thought we sold our house in the spring and then after the bank drug the process out as long as possible they denied the buyers at the last minute. Then a few weeks later the same buyers found approval from a different lender and everything went through just fine. We have to be out by 11/28 and then we will live with family until our house is complete sometime in the spring. I meet with the lot clearer this past Saturday and we walked off the area that will be cleared as well as the driveway. I can't wait to see what it will look like after it is cleared. I doubt any of that will start for about a month.
